One little duckling doesn’t look at all like her brothers and sisters. When her mother turns her away, the duckling tries to find out which mother bird she belongs to. The hen, the goose, and the owl all say the duckling is much too ugly. She stays with a farmer for the winter. In the spring she discovers she has turned into a beautiful swan and joins the flock of swans returning for the summer. This much-loved children’s classic was published by Hans Christian Andersen in 1843.
