A hen accidentally plucks a feather from her coat and jokes that she'll become more beautiful with each feather she pulls. One busy hen hears this claim and tells another hen who tells an owl who tells a pigeon. Soon the story is not one hen, but two, then three, then five, all trying to look thin to impress a rooster. The first hen hears the new tale, not even recognizing its origin as herself. The story is based on the 1852 original by Hans Christian Andersen.
